Motorhead live in Mo i Rana! Incredibly, MOTORHEAD is playing in the tiny town of Mo i Rana, Norway, tomorrow! They're part of the new Vika Festival. Arrangers hope to gather around 5000 people for two days packed with music, beer drinking and maybe a little bit of hell-raising.
Among the other artists you'll find Turbonegro, Mew and Brant Bjork and the Bros.
Motorhead has a new album, "Kiss of Death", out August 29th. Last year they celebrated their 30th anniversary with more touring, as usual, and released the live dvd "Stage Fright".
July 28th UPDATE:
The whole thing was great! The biggest surprise was the quirky and original british band ART BRUT, which managed to be both geeky and really rockin'! See mobile phone photos from the festival here, taken by Anton Balsam.
Another set of photos, by "Earphones". This one with actual photos of bands, not just me and my brother hanging around ...

Psykisk Tortur live at Bremnes FortThe last concert of the Club Exit Festival took place inside a bunker built by the germans during WW2, a freezing cave w/a 5 celsius degree temperature. Oceanism did a "warm-up" set w/laptop, guitar, violin and female vocal, w/video projection.
After a short break when people could go outside to soak in a few sunrays, everyone ventured back in to see Skjit-Lars & NXP's PSYKISK TORTUR's first gig in 22 years, this time fortified with Ronny Wærnes. Wærnes had control of the laptop and mini-theremin, replacing the backing tapes of old. Lars & NXP beat the shit out of a bunch of oil drums and metal sheets, and abused a few power tools. Naturally, their performance was a bit, eh.., rusty in the beginning, but they picked up the pace after a while and delivered a fairly blistering show of metal percussion layered with the background grind of computer-generated sounds and a cement mixer that was filled up with more and more broken bottles. As Z'ev once said: Noise are sounds you don't like, music are sounds you like. This was clearly music to my ears.
Faust had to leave just before Psykisk Tortur started. Their next gig is at the german art-errorism avantgarde festival in Schiphorst, Germany, 1-3 Sept. Between now and then Amaury Combazat's band Ulan Bator will play 9-10 gigs.

Faust featuring Scheisse-Lars! Second and main day of Club Exit festival: Local noisetape maker JURYEN makes a triumphant comeback -- and farewell gig. 20-25 minutes of noise, tape hiss and backward voices from 3 tape players, random noise from two radios, flute playing, and spoken vocals in a variety of languages, mainly german to appease the Goethe Institut, who contributed money to the festival to help finance the hiring of Faust. A well received set from Juryen.
Next up was new local noise master RONNY WÆRNES, with his 20-25 minutes of noise built up from sounds generated from a couple of laptops. Peron and Diermaier helped out by rattling a few tubes of metal.
The mighty FAUST entered a stage completely cluttered with two drum sets, all types of power tools, hanging scrap metal, and guitars, bass and synth. The first song was "It is not us. We are not here". Then they did a manic version of Dylan's "Hard Rain", but it was prob'ly more recognizable than Dylan's own version these days. They played a fantastic and noisy set for an hour, including a rambling, near-chaotic, but great version of "The Sad Skinhead" (from "IV").w/Peron on ac. guitar. Peron also ironed some of the audience's clothes on an iron board, although they didn't play "Iron Man"... I'd half expected Peron, being a nudist, to iron his own clothes, but he didn't. Local punk and noise legend Skjit-Lars (this night: Scheisse-Lars) sat in on drums on one song, while Diermaier played another set of drums + scrap metal.
They had a short break, and came back for another hour. Lars returned and exposed the audience to the blinding light of welding equipment in front of the stage. The song "Giggy Smile" (found on the bonus disc of "IV". Also known as "Picnic on a Frozen River" on "So Far") was played during this set. The concert ended with one of their most well known songs, "It's a Rainy Day (Sunshine Girl)" from "So Far". The audience helped out by clattering metal tubes around the floor. Peron released half a kilo of dry ice, laid the entire place in thick fog and set of the fire alarm in two nearby buildings, attracting the attention of the fire brigade. Great gig. Unfortunately, the attendance was scarce, a lot more people should have come down for this unique concert with a legendary band that performs live very rarely. They haven't been to Norway since '94 and may never come back.
Today, Skjit-Lars and festival main man NXP's project PSYKISK TORTUR (Mental Torture) plays a free concert in a former military bunker, thus ending this year's Club Exit Festival. I'd say it was a solid artistic success, but financially struggling due to people's disappointing apathy.

Club Exit/Klubb Nødutgang noise festival update This new mini-festival of noise and experimental music in Bodø started last night. Artists were: Lasse Marhaug, Hide Unas, Lars Myrvoll, Oceanism.
Hide Unas was the only band of the night. Quite good. Not loud or noisy, but with an original set-up with guitar, percussion, trumpet, flügelhorn, tapes and more.
Guitarist Lars Myrvoll also had a solo set, sitting with a laptop on the edge of the stage. The stage presence wasn't all that thrilling, although the music was nice enough, but not loud or noisy by any standards. Later on he gave me a CD of another project, Brötthaest/Päny.
The trio Oceanism had nice visuals, free-form videos to go along with their music. Very minimalistic and slow-moving.
Finally, Lasse Marhaug, Norway's own king of noise, entered the stage. After needling him all night about his habit of standing on stage with a laptop, looking like he's checking e-mail, and saying to him 50 times: - You're never loud enough!, he took over the stage with tables full of weird-looking equipment with wires sticking out of them, stuff that he could touch and hit to make an almighty rumble, a grinding cacaphony of noise - finally loud enough, the whole room as well as people's guts were vibrating. No pause for applause, just one long piece. Well done. In 97/98 Hypertonia and Lasse's label Jazzassin collaborated on the release of the late SHK's ANUS PRESLEY: "Music to Listen to When You're Dead" CD.
Peron and Diermaier from Faust were present, selling and signing CD's and t-shirts. Exciting to meet a band that has been a top favourite for decades. I bought the CD "Rien" and one I've never seen before, Tony Conrad with Faust Outside the Dream Syndicate ALIVE, live 1995. Their concert is tonight. Read more about Faust's records here. In the last few years there's been a lot of very limited CD-R and DVD-R releases, so getting a complete Faust collection has become a near impossibility.
