Hasil "The Haze" Adkins dies at 67No more hot dogs -- no more hot pants: The legendary and wild one man band Hasil Adkins died April 26th, just 3 days short of his 68th birthday. Here's a few words by Nick Bougas, from jimgoad.net: (go to the site, then to "lounge" to locate the "RIP Hasil Adkins" message and view the photo mentioned.)
Psychobilly one-madman-band Hasil Adkins has died .. If you never saw him perform live, it could only be described as sublime infectious chaos from the Ozark dimension. Soon after I snapped the image below, a hellacious fistfight broke out on the dance floor next to the stage ...one of the combatants was knocked flat, right into Hasil's setup, taking down one of his amplifiers. Although he was looking right at the action, Hasil didn't flinch ... in fact, there was no indication that he even noticed it ... he was deep in the zone, frantically wailing on his array of well worn instruments with tattered hands. This is perhaps the only human to whom the old tribute phrase "... his likes will ne'er be seen again" really, truly applies.
From all music guide:
A crazed rockabilly one-man band, Adkins has been recording in a tarpaper shack in the hills of West Virginia since the mid-'50s. The absolutely crudest and wildest of all rock & rollers, Hasil's lyrics stray as far from the standard '50s clichés as you can get.
Songs about eating peanut butter on the moon, chopping girls' heads off and mounting them on his wall, and doing something called the "hunch" are typical lyrical fare for Adkins. Combining a three-octave voice that can go from sub-glottal Elvis moans to blood-curdling screams with an over-amplified guitar that sounds like a gigantic rubber band, there is nothing in pop music that sounds like Hasil Adkins, a true rock & roll primitive.

Anti-porn crusader Andrea Dworkin dies at 58On April 9th, Eternal Nothingness swallowed whole the rotten slab of lard that called itself Andrea Dworkin, and death hasn't puked up even one rank chunk of her.
Not yet.
Discussing Andrea Dworkin as though she were a feminist is like giving the lunatics who crashed airliners into American landmarks on September 11, 2001, consideration as Islamic scholars. Just like those fatally deluded 9/11 terrorists, Andrea Dworkin's publicly pronounced guiding principles were based on demonization and truth twisted so perversely as to be indistinguishable from outright lies.

A week in Crumbland This just in from Fantagraphics:
The Guardian newspaper recently turned into a Crumb extravaganza with a full week’s worth of coverage; it includes an interview with Robert and Aline Kominsky-Crumb in their home in France, several articles by R. Crumb himself regarding his thoughts on sex, censorship, drugs and more, and a Q&A session with Kominsky-Crumb on her art, life in France and her underground cartoonist husband (who, lest all this attention goes to his head, is revealed to be a good dishwasher). www.guardian.co.uk/arts/crumb
Meanwhile, Newsweek offers a more straightforward but still quite complimentary overview of R. Crumb’s career and life and another Q&A with the chatty and charming Ms. Kominsky-Crumb: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7151500/site/newsweek
